HOW TO USE WS_FTP LE
| |
This tutorial is for people who do you know how to use FTP and wants to learn. Need a copy of WS_FTP LE? Go to Dysfunctional.com!
- Download it. Open it. There should be a big window and a small window over it. It should ask you for the following: Profile name, host name/address, host type, user ID, password, account, and comment.
- Your host should have given you 3 info that is important. First, the host name/address, which is ftp.domain.com (ie. ftp.dream-ling.net). Second, you should have your user ID, which is subdomain@domain.com. Subdomain is the name of your subdomain (ie. lingling@dream-ling.net). Third, is the password. It's just the password.
Profile name is just whatever you want to name it. It can be the name of your site or the name of your host or your name. Whatever you want. Host type is usually always automatic detect. I leave account and comment blank.
Okay, hit apply, save pwd if you want the password to save, and hit ok.
- Where do I save my files so that I can upload them? For me, I usually save them in the C drive. Click on My computer, click on Local Disk (C:), make a folder there (name it websites or whatever), and save all the files you want to upload there.
- Okay, so back to FTP. So uploading and downloading the files is easy. On the left side of the screen, you see a green arrow, right? Click it until you get C:\ This is assuming that you saved your files there. Then find the files that you want to upload. In the middle of the screen, you see 2 arrows. One goes --> and the other goes <--. The one goes --> is uploading and the one goes <-- is downloading. Select the file(s) you want and hit -->. To download, find the files on the right side, select it and click <--. There you go. Easy?
