SCAMMED!!!

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

I want to tell how my aunt got scammed. According to my mom, my aunt got a called from someone who claims to be a “representative” from her bank. They told her that someone charged $600 or something on her account. So they told her to give them her information so that they can cancel the account for her right away. Worried and scared, she started telling them all her card numbers and information. After hanging up the phone with them, it suddenly occured to her that *THAT* was the scam or possible scam. So she called her brother-in-law and he came over and cancelled all the cards she told them. Fortunately, none of her money was taken because she cancelled the card on time.

Apparently, if you google “phone scam” or something like that, there’s a lot of hits on stories of people getting scammed. Some people receive an automatic message telling them to call a number. When they call the number, they get someone on the other end who tells them that they need their information to cancel their account.

When my sister got unauthorized charges on her card, our bank didn’t call her. Someone took $900 from her. When she called the bank, they put the money back, but there was no call or hold on her account due to suspious activities. Although, I heard that some banks will call you or put a hold on her account so you have to call them if they think that someone else used your card.

So be careful!

Yes, Jail!

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

I’ m going to jail. No, just playing.

This is a a customer story.

So I work at a bookstore (no name, but a major chain). We send books to jail or “Friends outside”. People have to send it through a bookstore because of security issues or something. Anyway, besides sending stuff to jail, we also ship to other addresses too, but about 95% of the time, it’s to jail. HELLO? We’re not a post office! Plus, we tend to lose items unless it’s going to jail.

Anyway, so I was ringing up this customer.
Customer: Do you mail…?
Me: To jail?
Customer: Jail?! (*gives me a weird look) No! Why would I want to do that?!
Me: Regular mailing then?
Customer: Yeah! Why would you ask me that? (*clearly offended that I would even say that word)
Me: People usually mail stuff from here to jail. We do other mailing, but I don’t think we do that anymore.
Customer: I don’t know anyone in jail. Do you know want to mail something to people in jail? (*to her guy friend/husband in a joking voice)
Him: No, but I do want to send some people to jail.
Me: ha…ha…ha (*not amused)

First of all, we’re not the post office. Second of all, why were she so offended like I cussed at her or something. And lastly, no, I’m not being stupid. I was serious.

Anyway, moving on.

I had a really eventful couple of days since I last blogged. Twittering is more fun anyway. So what happened? (*looks back at twitter posts*) There are some people who are following me on twitter that I don’t know.

So it was my birthday last week. I’m now 23. Yay? My sister came back for my birthday. She took me out to eat at this really great sandwich and cheese place. Then we went to “The Boiling Crab” for some really good seafood. I also had a family thing that weekend too. My boyfriend took me out the weekend before. My aunt gave me $100. Yay, gas money!

On Tuesday, I didn’t wake up on time for my 7:45am class or my 10:45 am class. I finally made it to my lab at 1pm. Then I went straight to my 6:30pm class, but it turned out that the class was cancelled so I just went home. It was a very relaxing day for me.

On Wednesday, I was suppose to wake up early to go study, but I didn’t get out of bed until 3pm. Then I went to work from 5-9:30. I couldn’t sleep that night because I slept for the whole day.

Today, I did wake up from my early class, but I was very sleepy. In fact, I fell asleep once I got home and when my friend came to take me out, I was passed out. But I did wake up eventually and she took me out to eat for my birthday. We were suppose to go to a movie too, but she didn’t have time. I got a free burger at “Red Robin”.

Oh yeah, I’m getting $45 back from the government and I have to pay them $1. My sister is getting about $100 because she barely worked. Well, I guess it’s because my work-study job didn’t get taxed.

I’ve been playing SIMS 2 lately. I miss it. I stopped playing for awhile and when I started again, I couldn’t stop. Though, I should be studying.

Scavie Hunt? Maybe…?

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

I haven’t done a Scavie Hunt since…2006? or was it 2007? Anyway, I’m thinking of doing one again, but I don’t know if I should do it NOW or wait until SUMMER. Also what kind of prizes should I give? Gift cards? Or actual items? I want to do it, but I need opinions.
