Swine Flu Misunderstanding

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

So I’m sitting at school, studying for a test today. I checked my phone and got a few text messages from my uncle (my mom’s younger brother). It was all in Vietnamese and for the love of god, I cannot read it, but I got the gist of it. Basically, he was telling us about the swine flu and to be careful. Like we don’t know, right?

Anyway, so I got home from school and I told my mom about the text messages from my uncle. She told me that she got the same text messages, but the name came up as my aunt because I had enter in the wrong name for the number (uncle’s wife).  Anyway, my mom is not technology literate so she was only able to read the last text and didn’t read all the other ones before that. Since she only got the end, she thought that my aunt got the swine flu.

My mother freaked out and called my aunt and uncle with no success. Then she called my sister because she’s in the process of moving in with them for the summer. She told her that my aunt got the swine flu and that she shouldn’t go over to my uncle’s house. My mom told her to go to a friend’s house and hopefully she still have some of her belongings in her car so she didn’t have to go over to my uncle’s house to pick up clothes. LOL! My sister is in the middle of exams so she doesn’t know what’s going on and so she freaked out a little.

So my sister called my uncle to make sure my aunt was okay, but they were both at work. My uncle and aunt finally got off work, confused about the whole situation. They called my mom and sister back to clear up the whole thing. This all happened between 11am-4pm.

Anyway, in other news, my friend got me a temporary job for the summer. It’s full-time and it’s at a microbiology lab. I’ll be doing data entry. They pay better than the bookstore/cafe so whatever. It’s 80% sure that I got the job. This is exactly what I need. I need a job for the summer so I can pay for stuff during the year when I’m more busy. It’s only until the end of July (maybe beginning of August) so that’s pretty awesome. I’m only free until then anyway. So yeah, I hope I get it. If I do, I’ll be working at the lab monday through friday and work at the bookstore during the weekend. I need money for pharmacy school applications, books for fall/spring, and $800 for a class I still have to take. Fun.

Webhostingrating.com

I remember back in 2003 when I first decided I want to get a domain and hosting. I remember looking at different places and thinking how some places were so expensive, while others were so cheap. I was confused because I didn’t know which one I wanted to go with.

Web hosting has gotten easy and more affordable nowaday, but there are still so many companies to choose from. Why go searching all over the web for different reviews when you can just go to one place and find all that you need.

At Web Hosting Rating, you can read reviews written by actual users (kind of like amazon), to see if the company is worth wasting your money on. For example, on the main page, there’s a list of top 10 for 2009 with features and bonus features. Here is a review from #1, Inmotion. This website is unlike any other ones like it because it lets YOU write your own opinions on the company. In addition, you can also read some really great articles about hosting. For example, like this article called “Getting Hotlink Protection from cpanel.”

This is great for people who don’t know which provider they want to go with or want to find a new provider.

Not new happened except for work and school. I have plenty of stories there, but I don’t feel like typing it right now. So here are some random pictures.

Bitch!

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

OMG! I was on the phone with 3 different Petsmarts and one private groomer  in the past 30 minutes. It all started when I called the Curtner store to ask them when my appointment was because I have forgotten. They told me that the groomer called out and asked if I wanted to reschedule. Since they didn’t have any room this weekend, I rescheduled for next weekend.

But then I thought about Coco’s long nails and her stink butt and ear hair. So I called this lady that people on Yelp said was pretty good. She didn’t have any room until next Tuesday and I really wanted an appointment today or tomorrow. Although, if I wasn’t in a rush, I probably would have taken it.

So I called the Milpitas Petsmart. I actually had made an appointment at this one last Saturday, but then my work called me in at the last minute. So by the time that I got off, they have closed. Plus, I didn’t have their number with me so I couldn’t call them before I got to work (work was having an emergency with no employees). Anyway, so I called and I told the lady about my missed appointment and apologized for not calling or anything. Besides, I always make my appointments at this one and usually don’t miss them. But the bitch asian lady with an accent started fucking LECTURING ME! She was like “You know, it’s not very nice to not call us when you can’t make it. It was a Saturday and a lot of people was trying to get in…blah blah blah!” S0 I said, “You know what, never mind. I don’t want it anymore” and hung up.

Seriously! 1) I am a paying customer. $35+ is a lot of money! Plus, 70% of the time, I go to this one. 2) You are NOT my mother. 3) You don’t lecture customers because it’s called good customer service. 4) I apologized. Now, how many customers do you know do that? I know maybe 10 in my many years working in retail and dealing with people. They usually don’t fucking apologize! 5) I was NOT trying to be mean. I really did wanted to take her before work called me in. Sorry for not carrying around your fucking number in my pocket!

I was seriously mad! God, I was dealing with shitty customers all week and I do not need to deal with a bitchy employee. If I had to be nice to really shitty customers, you can at least be nice to me. I wasn’t mean! I didn’t yell! I said sorry! WTF!

Maybe that’s why they have all these room. They seriously had space for me tomorrow, while the Curtner store was booked (or so they say). Besides, I made that appointment at the last minute too and they had all these times available so I know it wasn’t a big deal. In fact, the groomer called me that Saturday and told me that I could bring her in at 3pm (appt was at 1:30). Busy my fucking butt!

So I called the store and asked to talk to a manager to complain about her shitty customer service, but the manager never came to the phone. I waited for 10 minutes. Thank you, shitty store! Never going THERE again! If you don’t value your customers, why should I spend my money on you? Maybe if this was an asian place, I would have understand the attitude because I’m used to bitchy asian people because that’s the way they are, but at a PETSMART??? No.

Next, I called the Downtown Petsmart. They have room tomorrow. So I called The Curtner one to cancel the one I made for next week. However, the girl on the phone said that they DO have room. That’s weird because the other lady said that they don’t. WTF! I don’t know. So I called back the Downtown store to cancel and was put on hold for like 10 minutes. *smack head against desk*

I was seriously considering going to Petco, but their starting price is $55 and Petsmart is only $35. If that independent groomer lady was so booked, I would have gone with her. Her service is about the same and the price range is about the same.

Spinach Dip Recipe

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

I was at a work party a few months back. One of my coworker brought a really delicious spinach dip. So I asked her for the recipe and she sent it to me. I have yet to try this on my own, but it’s really, really good! Try it!

Ingredients

1 package     Hidden Valley Ranch Original Ranch Party Dip Mix

          1 pint           sour cream

          1/2 cup        mayonnaise

1 can            water chestnuts, finely chopped

          1/4 cup        green onions, chopped

1 package     frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained

You can use bread or chip (pita chip is the best for this!)

1                  round loaf of sourdough bread for dip bowl

1                  loaf of sourdough bread for dipping

Mix HVR dip mix and mayonnaise.  Add sour cream.  Mix in water chestnuts and green onions, then the frozen spinach.  Hollow out round loaf and fill with the dip.
